As a wedding photographer in Indiana, I have had the opportunity to shoot at a variety of beautiful venues throughout the state. When choosing a place for your wedding and reception, it really comes down to what are your priorities for your wedding. Is a beautiful venue important to you, such as the as shown in this photo (Indiana Roof Ballroom https://www.indianaroof.com/) , or will you be happy having your wedding at your grandfather's estate in the back yard? Neither place is better than the other. It all depends on what you value and consider important to you. With this said, here are 5 tips for choosing the perfect wedding venue for you:
1. Consider the time of year: Do you want a summer outdoor evening wedding? Or do you want an indoor wedding during the summer with air conditioning? The time of year can impact the availability and cost of wedding venues. You may have to consider your wedding being on a Friday or a Sunday to get the venue you want.
2. Think about your style and vision: Choose a venue that matches your style and vision for your wedding. Do you want a rustic, outdoor wedding or a more formal, indoor event? Be sure to consider your personal preferences when choosing a venue.
3. Consider the amenities: Amenities are a very important factor to consider when choosing a wedding venue. Does the venue offer the ceremony and reception all in the same location? Does the venue allow outside caterers or do you have to use one from their preferred list? A venue that is flexible in this area is key. Does the venue offer getting ready areas for the bride and groom with plenty of room for the bridal party to get ready too? Be sure to ask about things like parking, availability of tables, chairs, and other essentials. Does the venue have a helpful coordinator that can refer vendors to you and help you with the rehearsal and on the day of your wedding? Do they have a list of photographers? DJ's? Florists? If everything is at the venue, such as the getting ready rooms, the ceremony and reception, this will make your life as a bride, groom and your families so much easier.
4. Consider your budget: It's important to have a clear idea of your budget when you start searching for a venue. This will help you narrow down your options and ensure that you choose a venue that fits within your price range.
5. Look for a venue with windows: As a photographer, I'm always looking for beautiful natural light at a venue, so I'm biased in this area. Good lighting is important for capturing beautiful, high-quality photos. What is good lighting? Natural light is good lighting. If a venue has no windows, then the photographer will likely be using flash, which isn't bad, it's just not as beautiful as natural light. On the other hand, low light receptions can be beautiful ! Are you wanting a romantic dinner and reception by candlelight ? That is a totally different look and one your photographer should be able to capture without flash.
